Product Overview
Bentonite is widely used in water-based drilling-fluid systems because of its swelling, hydration, rheological, and filtration-control properties. Hermano supplies sodium bentonite for drilling mud applications, including oil and gas drilling, water-well drilling, horizontal directional drilling (HDD), geotechnical work, and other engineering drilling projects. The suitable grade should be selected according to the drilling method, formation conditions, water quality, solids content, and required fluid performance.
Functions in Water-Based Drilling Fluids
In suitable drilling-fluid systems, sodium bentonite can help to: Build viscosity and gel strength Suspend drill cuttings and weighting materials Support borehole-wall stability Help control fluid loss and filter-cake formation Improve carrying capacity in water-based mud systems Actual performance depends on bentonite quality, hydration time, mixing procedure, water chemistry, salinity, polymer treatment, solids control, and the complete drilling-fluid formulation.
Grade Selection and Evaluation
To recommend a suitable drilling bentonite grade, please share:
Drilling application: oil and gas, water well, HDD, geothermal, piling, or geotechnical drilling
Required standard or specification, including API 13A if applicable
Freshwater, brackish-water, or saline-water conditions
Target viscosity, fluid loss, yield point, or other performance requirements
Current mud system and additives in use
Estimated quantity and packaging requirements
API 13A or other specification requirements should be confirmed against grade-specific technical data before sampling or ordering.
